Originally formed in 2005 by Tim Doiron and April Mullen, WANGO Films is an innovative production company that specializes in bridging the gap between creative and commerce. Operating primarily as content providers, the dedicated WANGO team has the ability to see a project from concept to delivery, giving the finished product a genuine creative stamp, while always staying on budget and keeping the financial and business side of the project perfectly intact.
WANGO Films first project was the cult comedy feature Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser. The film went on to garner international acclaim and numerous awards from around the globe. Since then the company theatrically released its second feature film, GravyTrain, and now has numerous projects in development.
Whatever the platform or genre, it is our primary objective at WANGO Films to see that all of our productions are released using fresh, unique, alternative promotional and advertising campaigns aimed directly towards our target market.
Selected as one of Playback’s “New Establishment” for 2015, April Mullen has been called a Feature Film “Director on fire.” Mullen recently completed shooting the feature film BELOW HER MOUTH, a relentless love story being produced by Robert Lantos of Serendipity Point Films. Earlier in the year, Mullen directed BADSVILLE (a gangster love story shot in LA), which begins its festival run in 2016.
In the world of TV, Mullen is currently directing an episode of KILLJOYS for SYFY. Before that she directed two episodes of REAL DETECTIVE— Investigative Discovery’s flagship narrative series, which premiered in the US in January 2016.
Mullen is co-founder of the award winning production company WANGO Films alongside Tim Doiron. She has directed and produced all the company’s feature films to date, including: the cult hit, ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS: THE WAY OF THE TOSSER, GRAVYTRAIN, FARHOPE TOWER, the CSA nominated, 88, which has sold in over 25 territories and was distributed in the US by Millennium Films (Alchemy) and DEAD BEFORE DAWN 3D, which marked Mullen as the youngest and first woman ever to direct a live action, fully stereoscopic feature. The film was awarded The Perron Crystal Award for its achievement in 3D.

Doiron has produced and written the majority of the company’s feature films, including: CSA Nominated, 88, whichsold in over 25 territories and was distributed in the US by Millennium Films(Alchemy) and. DEAD BEFORE DAWN 3D, which was awarded The Perron Crystal Award for its achievement in 3D, GRAVYTRAIN and ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS: THE WAY OF THE TOSSER, both of which were seen in festivals around the world and released in Canada by eOne. Doiron produced FARHOPE TOWER, a paranormal thriller that had it’s world premiere at Fright Fest in London, England, and won two awards at its Canadian Premiere at the Blood In The Snow Fest in Toronto. As a writer, Doiron has twice been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award and has just completed writing on the TV series, REAL DETECTIVE— Investigative Discovery’s flagship narrative series. The series premiered in the US in January 2016.
Doiron has attended Producer Events around the world including: Producers Without Borders (Berlinale – Feb. 2016) Strategic Partners (2015), Cannes Marche du Film, Producer’s Network (2015, 2014, 2012), TIFF Producer’s Network (2013) and IFF (2013). Doiron has also attended film markets around the world including: Cannes, Berlinale, TIFF, AFM, BANFF TV Summit, MIPcom, Tokyo Film Market and the 3D Stereo Media Summit in Liege, Belgium.
